Early 1980s  

How to Get Media Attention?

I became a "media darling" six weeks after I started my new business back in the 80s. I was on the cover of a section of the Los Angeles Times , syndicated around the world by Associated Press, on several of the "in" television magazine shows at the time, local and national. And I continued to get media coverage whenever I wanted it. As time went by, that coverage included my writing articles, the first of which grossed me $250,000.

True, my business may have had more dramatic appeal than some others. But the fact still remains that what you do outwardly to get that media attention starts in YOUR MIND. And that's how I did it.

People called me and asked who my publicist was and they probably didn't believe me when I told them I didn't have one, that I did it with my mind. I used the techniques that I teach today.

I had thousands of phone calls from the article that appeared in the Times. It put me on the map. My intuition (the Universe) guided me to make a statement BECAUSE I opened my mind to the possibilities. I INVITED the possibilities. I ASKED for the guidance. I started claiming my worth and stopped putting myself down. I was hungry to succeed at something and I decided to claim it.

Now, I am not saying here that you should not hire a publicist. The Universe created publicists, too :) What I am saying is that the foundation of the success of your endeavors is in your mind. And you can use your mind and your intuitive guidance to bring you together with all elements that will result in that success. That includes the perfect publicist if needed.

Mid 1980s

Super Amazing

There have been many incidents in my life that defy the senses and prove that we can tap deeper into areas of the mind than we can ever imagine.

Sometime in the 80s, I had dreamt that I was on the set of the television show, The Rockford Files , sitting on the floor speaking with the star, James Garner. A few days later it happened completely "by accident" in a business high-rise and every detail from the dream played out precisely. 1993

The Universe - My Marketing Department

As mentioned in the story above, when I started my business in the early 80s, I used my "mind stuff" to get a lot of media exposure that really put my business on the map. The exposure was about my company and me. It certainly proved that publicity works, at least for your 15 minutes of fame. If you want it to last longer, then it's about service and good results.

Years later, in 1993, I was concentrating on my prosperity principles to create some new business. The Los Angeles Business Journal called me to ask if I would advertise in their Meetings & Conventions Supplement that would also be sent to a couple of other cities nationally. I told them that I never advertise but my intuition prompted me to ask if they accept articles from contributing writers. The truth is that I had NEVER written an article in my life, but she said I could write something and send it in to the appropriate editor. She wasn't too encouraging, by the way. Well, I sat down and wrote an article regarding the wonderful event sites Los Angeles has to offer the meeting planner but I never mentioned my company name or myself in the article. These were only mentioned in the by-line at the end.

Long story short...that article grossed me $250,000! The profit wasn't bad either :-).




1997

The Universe - My Talent Agency

“What I actually did was accept in my mind that I had already secured Harry Connick for the job.

In 1996 I produced an exciting event for Home & Garden Television (HGTV) before anyone really knew about the network (how I attracted the client is a story in itself, and is included in my entrepreneurial memoir). I am proud to say that our Beverly Hills mansion party featuring Crosby, Stills & Nash for 400 cable industry guests was a big hit for the cable convention and put the new network on the map.

The client then contracted me to produce another party the following year for that same convention being held in New Orleans. We brainstormed to come up with the right talent to hire at the right budget, and one name stood out that was synonymous with New Orleans, class and HGTV's image - Harry Connick, Jr.

His agency was Creative Artists in Beverly Hills and the agent would not budge from a price of $250,000 plus plus (plus plus means airfare and lodging and perks for Harry, his band and his entourage – easily another $50,000). Subsequent calls to the agent and attempts to negotiate made no difference – he would not consider letting us hire this star for anything less. HGTV was still a small, newer network and could not spend that much. But we knew we wanted Harry.

My client contact, Marianne, was open to my ideas about mental principles to create what we want and she agreed to visualize and feel that she was watching Harry perform at the event venue in New Orleans. I told her I would do the same. What I actually did was accept in my mind that I had already secured Harry Connick for the job. Marianne had also told me that the very highest price they could spend was $135,000 including everything. I continued mentally accepting that this was a done deal.

It was less than a week later when I got the urge to call the agent again and make my plea with our final offer. A woman answered the phone - another agent - and explained that everyone in the entire firm was out with the flu and that she was filling in as agent for all the missing agents. I told her how much we wanted Connick for this event and what my client was willing to pay. She seemed very busy and distracted but said she would get back to me when she could.

That afternoon she called me and said we could have Harry Connick, Jr . and his 9-piece Funk Band at our New Orleans event for $135,000, inclusive. He had the date available and would look forward to going home and seeing his family.

Two interesting footnotes to the story:

I called and gave my client the great news and asked if she had been visualizing. She informed me that not only had she been visualizing, she had been doing it while playing his CD!

I found out that immediately after our New Orleans event, his Funk Band disbanded and Harry went back to crooning with a large orchestra. But as he told us onstage at our event, we had the “supersonic” Harry because he was home that night, and let me tell you…that party rocked!




2003

Attracting Perfect Customers

“ So I decided to have a little chat with the Universe…

I am hearing this business lately about "attracting perfect customers" and I would like to offer another perspective.

My clients have always just called out of the blue whenever I was ready for them. The same thing happens to this day. I have never thought about how to attract them.

I put my attention on the Source of my good. I have never put any attention on looking for or attracting clients. My attention remains focused on the Source, knowing that the Source – the Universe - knows exactly where the right clients are that have need for my services at any point in time. What I am seeking is seeking me. But I do not give it thought because the Universe is all knowing and knows exactly how to bring us together. There may be no physical action involved, or if there is, I know it will be “inspired” action that brings results.

And for over 20 years that is how I have attracted my perfect customers - the world's largest corporations that bring the large budgets to do the large events. And they are always kind, appreciative, pay me in advance of all events, which is my policy, and give me repeat business. I simply rely on my Source, my Senior Partner, the Universe, and trust.

An example: When I started teaching prosperity lessons last year, the endeavor grew quite rapidly and I found myself totally immersed. Since my corporate business has been my livelihood for so many years, I was becoming concerned that I was taking an unrealistic path. I am used to dealing with large budgets not "token" amounts. But I felt compelled to teach as if it were my purpose in life (which it is).

So I decided to have a little chat with the Universe, reminding myself that the Universe is my only source. I said, if I am supposed to be teaching these principles, please give me a sign that I am on the right path. Two days later I got a call from a woman who found my number somewhere, not even a business woman, who explained that a friend of her son's was looking for a house for a week. I told her I was not in real estate, that I was an event professional. She said she thought it was for a party but she didn't know anything about the details. A party? For a week? (That really sounded suspicious). Then she said she would have to check further and have someone call me, as she was just helping her son's friend. I didn't think anything further of the call and released it.

Half an hour later I received a call from an associate of a marketing company on the East Coast. The firm had been looking for the right mansion for over 6 months for a promotion for their client but no one had presented the right image they needed – the estate had to have photographic and publicity appeal geared to kids 6-15 years old – the “Wow” factor. The client? Campbell's Soup! I secured the perfect residence for them within a week or so. They paid my company for the rental of the house for the one week Grand Prize and for filming the television commercial. I was grateful to become a part of this multi-million dollar promotion.

And I said to the Universe, "Thank you, that was a VERY good sign". And I knew that I was to continue teaching and helping people, knowing that all my needs are met and I am truly on my right path.

So, how perfect is this client? (the “client” actually consists of several associated companies but I am dealing directly with the key marketing contacts). Well, for starters, they're great people - honorable, appreciative, creative and communicative. During a recent trip to Los Angeles over our current project, they contracted me to secure a castle in Europe and a private tropical island for two upcoming promotions (as of this writing, they're done deals).

So, my point is that the Universe knows exactly where your perfect customers and clients are. They are already resonating to you in consciousness. What you are seeking is seeking you. The secret is to know they are already there. There is only one thing you need to do to bring them into existence.

Trust. And know. The doors will open.



Odds? What Odds?

" I immediately thought about that hotel getaway..."

As you build your prosperity consciousness, gifts from the Universe come in many forms, even winnings. Let me give you an example of something that happened to me a few years ago.

A new Whole Foods Market was opening in Westwood this year and I got a flyer in the mail. It advertised their grand opening and mentioned drawings for several giveaways: yoga classes, Santa Barbara retreat, luxury hotel getaway, etc. Well, I immediately thought about that hotel getaway because a friend of mine was thinking of coming to visit from the east coast. I made a trip to the store and when I got there, the container holding the drawing entry forms was packed and there were no forms around to fill out. I went into the store and asked the manager for one. She gave me a pad of entry forms, I filled one out with my information and dropped it in the box. Then I released it from my mind (you learn all about release in Lesson Four). The day I went to the store was about a week after the opening and thousands of customers had already entered the drawing.

About 2-3 days later I received a telephone call from Whole Foods and you guessed it – I got that hotel getaway. Specifics: Fairmont Miramar Hotel in Santa Monica, deluxe ocean view suite with balcony for two days (anytime/no restrictions), value $630 and dinner for two in the hotel restaurant, The Grill, value $130.

What do you think is more exciting – the actual gifts from the Universe or the thrill of knowing we are using these laws!

2008

Major Update

Feel Free to Prosper: An Entrepreneurial Memoir of Synchronicity and Guidance

You will notice that I never did add more stories to this page after it was first created in 2003. Why? Because so much had occurrred from that time on. Feel Free to Prosper continued to grow and expand, my written material and stories appeared in many formats - articles, forum posts, newsletters and lesson material. 

Campbell Soup™, the client in the story above, became my sole corporate client for three years, spending over $450 million for six national promotions, for which I provided Hollywood mansions, a castle in England and a Carribean island. "Amazing" took on a whole new dimension as the Universe supported me in two distinct areas of business.

But then in September 2006, the WHOLE story  - my entrepreneurial memoir - spontaneously emerged from the recesses of my mind live on my Feel Free to Prosper Network and to my great surprise, captivated my members and visitors. I didn't know I was writing a book until that forum thread was seen by an agent and eventually  turned into 51 chapters, 55,000 words and a completed manuscript. I was signed by the agent and the memoir was submitted to major publishers.  They then requested a proposal for a second book on Feel Free to Prosper.  

Feel Free to Prosper - An Entrepreneurial Memoir of Synchronicity and Guidance  can still be read in its original version on the Feel Free to Prosper Network until a book release. It has had over 16,000 views, hundreds of rave reviews and attracts readers daily.
